Terms of use and disclaimer
By using Leashless you agree to these terms. They're written to be read, so please do. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. The information is a guide, not a guarantee
Leashless brings together information published by cities, Metro Vancouver Regional Parks, OpenStreetMap contributors, businesses' own websites and visitors. That information can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Parks change fences, hours and rules; seasonal restrictions come and go; businesses change their dog policies.
Everything on the site is provided "as is", without any warranty that it is accurate, complete, current or fit for a particular purpose. Posted signs, city bylaws and staff instructions always take priority over anything you read here. "Not recorded" means our sources don't say; it doesn't mean a feature is absent.
Nothing on the site is veterinary advice. Listings for vets and animal hospitals show what each clinic says about itself (the animals it treats, its services and its hours) as of the date shown. They aren't recommendations or referrals, and they can't tell you whether your pet needs care or how urgently. If your pet may be sick or hurt, phone a veterinarian. In an emergency, phone a 24-hour animal hospital before you go.
2. You're responsible for your dog
Off-leash areas carry real risks: other dogs, people, cyclists, traffic near unfenced edges, wildlife, cliffs and steep banks, cold water and currents, toxic algae, ticks and heat. You're responsible for deciding whether an area suits your dog, for keeping your dog under control, for cleaning up after it, and for following the leash laws and bylaws that apply wherever you are. Distances, sizes and directions on the site are approximate.
3. Listings aren't endorsements
Including a park, café, brewery, vet clinic, cat café or other place doesn't mean we endorse it, have visited it, or have any relationship with it. Dog policies at businesses are shown as the business describes them or as visitors report them, and can change without notice, so check with the venue before you go.
4. Other people's sites and services
We link to third-party sites and services, including city websites, Google Maps for directions and photos, OpenStreetMap and Wikimedia Commons. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
5. Suggestions, corrections and new places
When you send us a suggestion, correction, new place or photo, you agree that:
- it's accurate to the best of your knowledge;
- you took any photo yourself, or otherwise have the right to share it;
- it doesn't show anyone's face, and doesn't include anyone else's personal information;
- it isn't advertising, spam, or anything unlawful, abusive or misleading.
You keep ownership of what you send, and you give Leashless a free, non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual licence to use, edit, publish and display it on and in connection with the site, with credit if you ask for it. We may edit, decline or remove any submission, and we review everything before it's published.
6. Using the site
Please don't try to disrupt the site, get around its security, or use it in a way that breaks the law. You're welcome to link to any page.
7. Content, credits and licences
The site's design, writing and presentation belong to Leashless. Some content belongs to others and is used under open licences:
- Park data from OpenStreetMap is © OpenStreetMap contributors and available under the Open Database Licence.
- City and regional park data is used under each publisher's terms; each park page names its source.
- Map tiles by OpenFreeMap, © OpenMapTiles.
- Park photos come from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons licences and are credited where they appear.
- Film on the home page is from Mixkit and Pexels, used under their free licences.
If you believe something here infringes your rights, email hello@leashless.ca and we'll look at it promptly.
8. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Leashless isn't liable for any loss, injury, damage or cost arising from your use of the site or your reliance on its information, including anything that happens to you or your dog at a place listed here. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.
9. Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when. These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
